Spring at last

Today is the official date for the beginning of our  South African spring. A beautiful and sunny day - so happy spring is here at last. I am not a winter person at all, and like bears,  I tend to  hibernate during the cold winter months. Now I am awake and the ideas for new designs is flowing freely again.
The 40% discount offer sadly ends tomorrow, do not loose out. I trust you will enjoy making the free pattern and feel free to share with your friends on the social media. The next freebie will be available soon.
Do not forget to show off your Thembimbi Bracelet - I would love to see it! Share on my facebook page (see pattern for details)

Adriana Flower Bracelet

Beautiful feminine bracelet, that can be a stunning necklace too! Craw and peyote stitch combined and not difficult at all. Even though the pattern came so easily to me, I struggled for a few days to get the pattern published. At one stage I wanted to name my beautiful Adriana , Satan's daughter,  so frustrated I was with trying to publish the pattern.  First the illustrations that I did, did  not save correctly, then the file gave me that awful " file corrupted" message and in the last few days I rewrote, re illustrate the pattern at least six times. Well, it is now done and  posted  at last. And just for the record -  I was sooo  happy with the first pattern Enjoy

Carrie and Elizabeth

Finished the pattern at last.  Both the variations will be included in the pattern. So, if all goes well, I'll post the link to the pattern on Saturday.
This pendant is so beautiful I am going to make  a few extra in different colors  to match all my outfits.
Carrie is the pendant for the no nonsense lady, she wants something feminine but not over the top with bling as she wants to be in the background
Elizabeth is the choice for the women who wants to attract attention, still stylish but she want to be seen! What better way as to have bling bling around your neck

Fiona

https://www.etsy.com/listing/199948196/bead-patternhalf-tila-ring-pattern-fiona?ref=shop_home_active_1
Fiona is such a lovely and elegant dress ring. The bonus is that it uses small amounts of left over beads and is quick to make.  The pattern can also be a beaded bead and I'll post some variations on this theme later on.
Basic knowledge required - tubular/circular peyote stitch
The pattern is very detailed with step by step instructions and illustrations
Materials - Miyuki half tila 2.5 x 5 mm, various sizes seedbeads in small quatities

Gypsy Bracelet

I absolutely adore this bright and shiny bracelet. Wearing it will brighten even the dullest day.  Gypsies are so colorful and this bracelet needed a colorful name. Hear the tambourines!  Uneven count peyote stitch in various sizes beads and shapes give you this very textured bracelet.
The original bracelet was designed for my students in my peyote master class group. But I used dull colors at the time. Must admit when I reworked the pattern in the brighter colors, it looked a lot nicer too

Isigubhu Beaded Bead

The Isigubhu beaded bead is the ideal project to get rid of all those
left over beads.  Create a spectacular beaded bead in a variety of colors
Isigubhu means traditional Zulu drum - the finished project resembles the
traditional drum that is part of the traditional Zulu ceremonies.
This project is for a round beaded bead Peyote Stitched
over a 14mm wooden core bead. It is an Intermediate Level
project. You should have a working knowledge of Circular
Peyote Stitch.
You will combine several types and sizes of seed beads to
create your pattern.
Step by step instructions with detailed illustrations and clear
 photos to guide you
Eight pages to print.

Materials:
Seed beads 15 o, 11 o. 8 o
4 mm bi cones
 Available at
https://www.etsy.com/listing/196615238/beaded-bead-pattern-peyote-stitch-bead?ref=shop_home_active_1

Isigubhu

  • The isigubhu is a Zulu drum. The isigubhu is made out of a used oil drum, wrapped with ox hide known as isikhumba. Before each performance, the drum is set out in the sun, which makes the ox hide tautly stretched. This produces a sharp, resonant sound. The drum is frequently used in  dancing, , accompanied with clapping blocks of wood and singing.

Sometimes I can still surprise myself. Years ago I entered an international competition with this necklace and even though  only chosen as a finalist was a big enough ego trip for me, as I then still considered myself a beginner just getting into seed bead weaving (Still cannot believe that I ever could consider this as something to be exhibited in the USA). Well, it was exhibited along with some of my other monstrosities of the time. Looking back on this event, my self confidence was much higher those years, than what it is today! Believe it or not - this necklace was made using herringbone, peyote, free form peyote and netting stitch all combined to create this loooooong tube, which I twisted and knotted and then added embellishments  onto. This creation is one of those once in a lifetime projects and a pattern would be impossible to write - the biggest nightmare would be to try and do an illustration on that darn knots.
Luckily, you can find my patterns on Etsy - the ones that I could pen down on paper.

Delilah

Delilah is a delightful pattern - not yet posted - soon ,soon. I go through different stages in my bead weaving adventures, but beaded beads still fascinates me. This week I started to work on a design with tiny hollow beads and the possibilities are endless what you can do with these when you combine them together. The name that keep coming back to me is "Oopsies" So perhaps when you see the project posted - it might sound quite funny - Oopsies Peyote stitch bracelet pattern -  will have to re think the name on this one.
The Rani's  large cross is still pending, as I need to do some re designing on it, not too happy with what I did more than seven years ago.

Good news to all buyers: Purchase patterns to the amount of $15 or more  and you'll receive a 25% Discount coupon to use on future purchases - valid till end March 2014

Shongololo

I am sure most of you wonder what does that mean. It means centipede in Zulu. To name my latest design was a bit of a challenge and after leaving it overnight, the next morning it look like a worm to me me. Not that a worm and a centipede have a lot in common - one has a hell of a lot of legs and the other one less. But this name just sounded so nice on the tongue. And when I post the photos I do hope that it would be beautiful to you. It is a right angle weave design, supple and as usual I was busy with something very different when this idea for a bracelet crept in.
Luckily the original idea  and design I did finish and you can have a peek later on this week.
Watch out for The Highlander, Shongololo and a yet to be named pendant and necklace.
Also found a few finished designs in that infamous - "Unfinished Project" box of mine, sadly I wrote the patterns as cryptic as you do not want a pattern to be written, especially when you made it a few years back, my memory is not what it used to be.
And more good news - I will post the bigger version for my Rani's Cross early next week.
Have a nice evening you all

The Mika Pendant

The "old faithful" Mika Pendant is revived with jewelry colors. I discovered a lot of beautiful bright colors of Delicas when I had to evacuate my studio due to water damage. So in the next few weeks I'll share with you my understated color patterns in new vibrant, bright and funky color choices. As you may remember many moons ago I made the pendant in a solid gold color. This was one of my designs that my students favored because it is such a dainty pendant on a chain - understated elegance. The revised pattern is a double sided pendant and will be available on Etsy soon.
